Opportunities and competitions

The Sentinel North research and training strategy offers all researchers and students the chance to push their limits in a unique research and learning environment. By encouraging discovery, interdisciplinarity, innovation, collaboration and partnership, Sentinel North offers many learning and funding opportunities that all are invited to grasp.

  • Knowledge Mobilization Excellence Awards

    The Knowledge Mobilization Excellence Awards recognizes initiatives by students, postdoctoral fellows and research professionals from Sentinel North's community whose knowledge mobilization activities have had an impact outside the scientific community.

    More specifically, the aim of this award is to highlight the potential impact of Sentinel North's research, and to encourage research teams to make efforts to promote research results to potential users outside the academic community.

    The deadline for applications is September 27, 2023, 11:59 p.m. EST.

  • Author Fund

    The Sentinel North Author Fund aims to encourage publications by graduate students and postdoctoral fellows as 1st author, while reinforcing North Sentinel's commitment to open access and the deposit of publications on the CorpusUL institutional platform.

    You may apply for the Author Fund at any time. However, applications will only be processed and evaluated three times per year. Applicants should take the following evaluation dates into account:

    • February 1
    • June 1
    • November 1
  • Access to Northern Infrastructure Fund

    Sentinel North provides its researchers with a Fund to facilitate their access to northern research infrastructure and support field work in terrestrial or marine environments. Get all details here.

    Funding requests can be submitted at any time. However, applications are assessed twice a year. Applicants must consider the following evaluation dates in their planning:

    • April 1st 
    • October 1st
  • Technology Maturation Fund

    The goal of the Technology Maturation Fund (French only) is to support the maturation of projects originating from Université Laval research teams that fall within the conceptual framework of Sentinel North and have a strong potential for commercialization. The funding is intended to support the steps that will allow a technology or know-how to reach the necessary levels of technological maturity before being transferred to an industrial partner.

     

  • Research projects

    Projects and chairs funded by Sentinel North can provide opportunities for master's, doctoral and post-doctoral students to pursue their research projects in a dynamic and innovative transdisciplinary setting.

  • Fonds d'accélération de la recherche

    Le Fonds d'accélération de la recherche fournit un financement unique aux équipes de recherche établies de l'Université Laval pour accélérer la recherche sur des questions émergentes ou la recherche à impact rapide liée à la mission de Sentinelle Nord.

    Le Fonds offre la flexibilité nécessaire pour déployer rapidement un financement limité et à court terme pour élargir la portée d'un projet, accroître l'efficacité de la recherche ou accélérer des projets innovants de la recherche à l'impact sociétal. Le Fonds vise également à encourager l'utilisation créative de données existantes pour poser de nouvelles questions et générer de nouvelles connaissances pertinentes pour la mission de Sentinelle Nord, ainsi qu'à permettre aux équipes de générer des résultats initiaux qui pourront être exploités pour déployer des initiatives plus importantes. Le financement n'a pas pour but de soutenir intégralement un projet, mais plutôt d'exploiter les ressources existantes pour accélérer la découverte et l'impact de la recherche.

    Les demandes au Fonds d'accélération de la recherche peuvent être soumises à tout moment. Cependant, les demandes reçues seront traitées et évaluées uniquement trois fois par année.

    Les demandeurs et demandeuses doivent tenir compte des dates d'évaluation suivantes dans leur planification :

    • 1er novembre
    • 1er février
    • 31 mai
