In the face of accelerating climate change and socioeconomic development in the Arctic and sub-Arctic, the Sentinel North research program helps generate the knowledge needed to monitor and prepare for environmental changes at multiple levels—from microbes to ecosystems—using better technologies, predictive models, and intervention strategies oriented toward sustainable health and development.

 

Sentinel North Partnership Research Chairs Program

The Vice Rectorate of Research and Innovation (VRRCI) and the Sentinel North Steering Committee launch the Sentinel North Partnership Research Chairs Program.

This new program is aimed at recruiting new high-level faculty resources at Université Laval to consolidate and / or fulfill the institution's capacity in strategic research areas for Sentinel North.

Launch of the International Ph.D School: Shedding Light on Arctic Marine Ecosystem Services

Taking place on board the Canadian research icebreaker CCGS Amundsen deployed in Baffin Bay and the Fjords of Baffin Island, Nunavut (Canada), this second Sentinel North International PhD School is a unique opportunity to participate in an ocean research program focusing on the links between light, marine ecosystem services and health in the North.

Experiential Training

Sentinel North’s unique experiential training allows students and postdoctoral fellows from around the world to immerse themselves in northern research.

With an approach based on transdisciplinarity and the application of learning in northern or highly technological environments, these training activities provide an opportunity to interact with peers from other disciplines as well as high-profile scientists and experts. The participants also get a chance to learn with world-class research infrastructure.
